How to Fold Down the Rear Seats in a Jeep Wrangler

Ready to take on more adventures? We’ll show you how to fold down the rear seats in your Jeep Wrangler, giving you the freedom to carry everything you need for the journey ahead. Both sides fold down, with a 60-40 split, giving you options for seating and storage.

2 Door

The seats in the 2-door model of the Jeep Wrangler do not fold 100% flat. Instead, the seat hinges forward and leans against the front seats.

2018 – 2023 Models

  1. Locate the release handle on the lower side of the rear seat near the door opening.
  2. Grab the handle and pull it to release the rear seat from its locked position.
  3. Push the seat forward to fold it down.

2007 – 2018 Models

  1. Locate the lever or handle on the rear side of the seat’s lower part.
  2. Pull the lever or handle until the rear seat is released from its locked position.
  3. Fold it forward towards the front seats.

1997 – 2006 Models

  1. Locate the seat release strap on the rear side of the seat’s lower part.
  2. Grasp the release strap and pull it to disengage the rear seat’s lock.
  3. Push the seat towards the front to fold.

4 Door

In the 4-door models, the rear seats can be folded down to create a flat cargo area.

2018 – 2023 Models

  1. Clear out items from the back seat area to ensure a smooth folding process.
  2. Locate the release handles on the sides of the rear seat cushions near the doors.
  3. Pull the release handles upwards, and the rear seat cushions will fold towards the floor.
  4. Move to the rear of the Jeep and locate the release straps on the back of the seat backrests.
  5. Pull the release straps, and the backrests will fold onto the seat cushions.

2007 – 2017 Models

  1. Remove any items to ensure nothing is blocking the rear seats.
  2. Locate the release straps at the top edge of the rear seat backrests, near the rear headrests.
  3. Pull the release strap downward, and you’ll feel the seat backrests unlock.
  4. Push the seat backrests forward towards the front seats.
