Volkswagen Polo: How to Open the Hood

You may not consider yourself a mechanic, but even if you aren’t, you will need to do some light maintenance on your car. The maintenance includes opening the hood every so often. You will need to open the hood to add window washer fluid, check the oil, and do other tasks. Here is how you open the hood of a Volkswagen Polo.

1994 – 2022 Models

1. Open the driver’s door.
2. Pull the hood release lever on the side of the door frame.
3. The hood will pop up but not open.
4. Walk to the front of the car.
5. Slide your hand, palm up, under the hood and push the secondary lever to the right.
   • You may need to push the second lever up in newer models instead.
6. Life the hood to open.
   • If your model has a prop rod, hold the hood open while you get the prop rod in place.
