Volkswagen Jetta: How to Open the Hood

Opening and closing the hood can seem complicated if you’re unfamiliar with the Volkswagen Jetta. Fortunately, opening the hood only takes a few simple moves from inside the car. This guide details the basic steps to open the hood of various Volkswagen Jetta models.

2011–2022 Models

Follow the steps below:

1. Look by the driver’s footrest, close to the edge of the door. You should see the hood release lever.
2. Pull the lever outwards.
3. The hood will pop up slightly.
4. If you place your hand underneath the center of the hood, you should feel the safety clutch.
5. Pull the safety clutch up.
6. You can now raise the hood to open.

2006–2010 Models

Follow the steps below:

1. Locate the hood release lever in the driver’s footrest close to the edge of the door.
2. Pull the lever out.
3. The hood will pop up slightly.
4. Place your hand underneath the hood above the VW logo to feel the safety clutch.
5. Press the safety clutch inwards.
6. Raise the hood to open.
