Toyota Tacoma: Reset Maintenance Light

The Toyota Tacoma has a maintenance light that will illuminate on the instrument panel when an oil change is due. Use the following steps to reset the maintenance light whenever you have completed an oil change.

2018-2023 Models

  1. Press the “Power” button once without holding the brake to activate the electronics. Do not start the engine.
  2. Use the Left and Right arrows to select the “GearToyota Gear Icon icon on the info display.
  3. Use the Up and Down arrows to select “Settings,” then press Toyota Select Button.
  4. Use the arrows to select “Maintenance Reset,” then press Toyota Select Button.
  5. Select “Yes,” then press Toyota Select Button.

2016 – 2019 Models

With Buttons on the Steering Wheel

  1. If you have the Push Start, turn on the vehicle.
  2. Press the back button to clear the Maintenance Required message.
  3. Press the left or right arrow on the right side of the steering wheel to scroll to the Settings menu (image of a gear).
  4. Scroll down to Maintenance Reset.
  5. Press Enter (the button has a circle on it).
  6. Scroll up to Yes and press Enter.

Manually

  1. Press the start button twice (foot off the brake).
  2. Press the stick on the speedometer until the dash reads Trip A.
  3. Turn off the car.
  4. Press and hold the stick on the speedometer and press the ignition button twice (make sure your foot is off the break).
  5. The dash will come up with a Check Charging System message. The odometer will flash dashes and zeros at the bottom. The reset is done when the zeros stop flashing.

2012-2015 Models

On these models, a Maintenance Required light will illuminate for 3 seconds, then flash for 15 seconds when the vehicle has been driven 4,500 miles since the last reset. It will illuminate and then remain lit after 5,000 miles.

  1. Turn the ignition to the “On” position. Do not start the engine. For push-button models, press “Start” and do not touch the brake pedal.
  2. Press the “Odo/Trip” button or display change button to switch the display to “Trip A.”
  3. Turn the vehicle completely off.
  4. Press and hold the “Odo/Trip” button.
  5. Continue to hold the “Odo/Trip” button while switching the ignition to “On” without starting the engine. Release the “Trip” button until the trip meter is set to all zeros.

2004 – 2011 Models

These models typically display a “MAINT REQD” message when an oil change is due. If these steps didn’t work on the first try, try these steps again.

  1. Turn the key to the On position.
  2. Press the stick on the speedometer until the dash reads ODO.
  3. Turn the key off.
  4. Press and hold the stick on the speedometer and turn the key back to On.
  5. The odometer will flash dashes and zeros at the bottom. The reset is done when the zeros stop flashing.

NOTE: in 2011 models, the dash will read Trip A on step #2.
