Tesla is a piece of the future. But even cars like the Model Y must be charged from time to time—weekly for most users. This guide will go through all the ways to access the all-important hidden charging port on the Model Y.

Inside the Tesla
There are two ways to reveal the port:
- On the home console, click on the charge icon on the dock bar at the top, or click that same icon as it appears on the diagram of the car itself. This will bring up the relevant information about charging.
- Toggle the button to open and close the door appropriately.
Outside the Tesla
There are also two approaches:
Approach 1
- Ensure the car is unlocked.
- Simply press the charge port door, and it will open as though on a spring mechanism.
Approach 2
- Unhook the supercharger from its docking station with the car unlocked.
- Press and hold the button on the supercharger in the vicinity of the charge port door: it will connect and open it remotely.
Note: If the car is locked, you can use the app on your phone to unlock your car and open the charge port door by using the respective icons. All that’s left is to plug in! The door can also be closed remotely using the control console or the app should you get back in the driver’s seat and realize it has been left open.
