2020 – 2023 Models
Using the Touchscreen
There are two ways you can open the charge port door from the touchscreen:
- Open the “Charging” app, then tap “Open Charge Port“.
- Open “Controls” > “Quick Controls,” then touch the charging icon.
From Remote Key
- Press and hold the “Trunk” button on the remote key for about 2 seconds until the door springs open.
Opening Charge Port Door Manually
Unlock the doors, or carry the key remote nearby while pressing the charge port door inward. It will spring open.
2000 – 2019 Models
Keyfob Button
- Press and hold the unlock button on the keyfob for 2-3 seconds. A symbol of an open padlock denotes the unlock button.
- The charge port door should automatically open.
Keyfob
- Insert the keyfob into the small slot on the charge port door.
- Turn the keyfob clockwise until you feel the door release.
- Pull the door open.
Use the Mobile App
- Open the Tesla mobile app.
- Select the Controls option from the menu.
- Select Open Charge Port.
- The charge port door should now automatically open.
Manual Open
- Locate the small slot on the charge port door.
- Insert a flathead screwdriver into the slot.
- Push down on the screwdriver while turning it clockwise until you feel the door release.
- Pull the door open.

Pushing on the charge port door does not work on the early versions of the Model S when the battery has discharged.
