Subaru Outback: Connect a Phone

Subaru models have been at the cutting edge of technology. In newer models, every Subaru can be connected to a smartphone, giving you access to music and hands-free calls. Below is a step-by-step explanation of connecting various Subaru models to your smartphone devices.

2018 – 2022 Models

  1. Stop and park your car, keeping the engine on.
  2. On your phone, turn on your Bluetooth, ensuring you are discoverable to other devices.
  3. On your stereo system, press the phone button and “Add a New Device.”
  4. Click “Yes” to begin the search on the multimedia screen.
  5. Select “Subaru BT” from the list of devices on your phone’s screen.
  6. Verify the six-digit passcode displayed on both screens.
  7. On your phone, select “Pair” and confirm the same on your stereo system.
  8. The phone will display a message indicating that it is connected.
  9. The phone will then display a message asking if you want to download your phonebook. Click “Allow” and download.

2012 – 2017 Models

  1. Stop and park your car, keeping the engine on.
  2. On your phone, turn on your Bluetooth, ensuring you are discoverable to other devices.
  3. Press and hold the voice button on your steering wheel to enable the voice assistant. The voice assistant will guide you through the process of connecting your phone to your car.
  4. Your voice assistant will direct you to press the talk switch and say, “Pair Phone.”
  5. Next, press the talk switch to create your device’s name. Such as “Tom’s Phone.”
  6. Your voice assistant will ask you to verify the created name.
  7. Your voice assistant will prompt you to run a Bluetooth scan. Select your car from the available options once complete.
  8. Your voice assistant will direct you to retrieve the code on your phone.
  9. Verify the code on your Subaru stereo system and press “Pair.”
