Nissan Maxima: How to Reset TPMS

If you have recently replaced, rotated, or inflated your vehicle tires, you may see a TPMS warning light on your vehicle’s dash. To make the alert go away, you need to reset the TPMS. This post outlines how to reset TPMS on a Nissan Maxima.

2016 – 2023 Models

  1. Ensure all tires are properly inflated to the recommended pressure listed on the tire placard or in the owner’s manual.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (do not start the engine).
  3. Press the “Settings” button on the instrument panel.
  4. Select “Vehicle” using the control buttons on the steering wheel and then select “Tire Pressure” from the menu.
  5. Select “Maintenance” and then select “Tire Pressure” from the submenu.
  6. Select “Reset” and then select “Yes” to confirm.
  7. Start the engine and drive the vehicle for at least 20 minutes at 30 mph or more to allow the TPMS to relearn the tire pressures. During this time, the TPMS warning light may continue to stay on or flash.

2009 – 2015 Models

  1. Ensure all tires are properly inflated to the recommended pressure listed on the tire placard or in the owner’s manual.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (do not start the engine).
  3. Press the “Trip” button on the instrument panel until the “Trip A” display is shown.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  5. Press and hold the “Trip” button while turning the ignition switch back to the ON position (do not start the engine).
  6. Hold the “Trip” button until the tire pressure warning light starts flashing, which should take about 10 seconds.
  7. Release the “Trip” button and wait for the flashing to stop.
  8. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  9. Start the engine and drive the vehicle for at least 20 minutes at 30 mph or more to allow the TPMS to relearn the tire pressures. During this time, the TPMS warning light may continue to stay on or flash.

2004 – 2008 Models

  1. Ensure all tires are properly inflated to the recommended pressure on the tire placard or in the owner’s manual.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  3. Press and hold the trip/reset button located on the instrument panel near the speedometer.
  4. While holding the trip/reset button, turn the ignition switch to the ON position (do not start the engine).
  5. Hold the trip/reset button until the TPMS warning light on the dashboard flashes twice and then stays on. This should take approximately 10 seconds.
  6. Release the trip/reset button.
  7. Start the engine and drive the vehicle for at least 20 minutes at 30 mph or more to allow the TPMS to relearn the tire pressures. During this time, the TPMS warning light may continue to stay on or flash.

2000 – 2003 Models

  1. Ensure all tires are properly inflated to the recommended pressure on the tire placard or in the owner’s manual.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (do not start the engine).
  3. Press and hold the reset button underneath the dashboard on the driver’s side, near the steering column. Hold the button for about 10 seconds until the TPMS warning light on the dashboard blinks twice.
  4. Release the reset button.
  5. Start the engine and drive the vehicle for at least 20 minutes at 30 mph or more to allow the TPMS to relearn the tire pressures. During this time, the TPMS warning light may continue to stay on or flash.

1994 – 1999 Models

Unfortunately, the Nissan Maxima from 1994 to 1999 did not come equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) as this technology was not yet widely available during that time.
