Nissan Altima: How to Open Fuel Door

Posted on December 16, 2020 by Mitch Bartlett Leave a Comment

If you’re new to the Nissan Altima because you just purchased it or if you are using it as a rental, you might not know where the fuel door release latch is located. It’s in a rather odd spot that you wouldn’t find it in other vehicles. This post should help you find it.

  1. Locate the fuel door release lever next to the hood release lever. You can find it on lower-left side of the steering wheel.
  2. Pull the lever toward you to pop the door open.
  3. Exit the vehicle, then open the fuel door. You can then twist the gas cap off, and proceed with refueling.

FAQ

What can I do if the fuel door is stuck closed?

Try shoving a credit card into the side of the fuel door. This will provide pressure to the door. Then attempt to use the fuel door release again. If you aren’t successful, you may need the help of another person to try to pry the door open as you pull the fuel release door.
