If you’re new to the Nissan Altima because you just purchased it or if you are using it as a rental, you might not know where the fuel door release latch is located. It’s in a rather odd spot that you wouldn’t find it in other vehicles. This post should help you find it.

- Locate the fuel door release lever next to the hood release lever. You can find it on the lower-left side of the steering wheel.
- Pull the lever toward you to pop the door open.
- Exit the vehicle, then open the fuel door. You can then twist the gas cap off and proceed with refueling.

- Locate the fuel door release lever on the bottom left-hand side of the dashboard to the left of the steering wheel. (The lever has a gas pump icon on it.)
- Lift the fuel door release lever to open the fuel tank door. The fuel door should pop open.
- If pulling the release lever does not work, try to lightly press down on the fuel door while pulling on the release lever (you will need two people to complete this step.)
- Exit the car and open the fuel door fully.
FAQ
What can I do if the fuel door is stuck closed?
Try shoving a credit card into the side of the fuel door. This will provide pressure to the door. Then attempt to use the fuel door release again. If you aren’t successful, you may need the help of another person to try to pry the door open as you pull the fuel release door.
