Mercedes C230: Release/Open Fuel Door

Mercedes-Benz cars have no fuel levers inside the vehicle for opening the fuel cap, which can make learning how to open it a little frustrating. The steps below will explain how to open the fuel door and anything else you might need.

2010 – 2022 Models

For the newer models like Mercedes-Benz C230 Avantgarde, use your car key remote lock/unlock buttons to open the fuel door by:

  1. Unlock your car.
  2. Gently push the fuel door in to pop it open.
  3. Unscrew the gas cap to gain access to the fuel tank.
  4. After fueling, put the gas cap back on and screw it clockwise until you hear a clicking sound, indicating that the gas cap is locked tight.
  5. To close the fuel door, push the outer lid and shut it; you should hear a click.

2001 – 2009 Models

For the newer Mercedes-Benz C230, you can use your car key remote lock/unlock buttons or open it manually. To open the fuel door:

  1. Unlock your car.
  2. Gently push the fuel door in to pop it open and then pull it wide open.
  3. Unscrew the gas cap and fuel your vehicle.
  4. Once you are done fueling, put the gas cap back on and screw it clockwise until you hear a clicking sound, indicating that the gas cap is locked tight.
  5. To close the fuel door, shut the outer lid; if done correctly, you should hear a click.

1996 – 2000 Models

The procedure is still the same for the older Mercedes-Benz C230 models, except that you can use a manual unlock system to open the fuel door instead of using your car keys.

  1. Ensure that the car doors are unlocked, especially the driver’s door. The gas cap automatically unlocks when the driver’s door is unlocked.
  2. Proceed to the rear side and press one side of the filler flap on the fuel compartment to open the fuel door.
  3. Unscrew the gas cap by rotating it counter-clockwise.
  4. Pull the gas cap out once you hear a clicking sound.
  5. When done fueling, put the gas cap back on and screw it clockwise until you hear a clicking sound, indicating that the gas cap is locked tight.
  6. To close the fuel door, push the outer lid and shut it. It’ll click once it’s locked.
  7. Note: Always remember that the fuel door will only open when the car is unlocked. Manual unlocking the other doors, other than the driver’s, will yield no results.
