Mercedes-Benz C250: Reset Oil Change Light

If you’ve performed a manual oil change or are using oil that doesn’t need to be changed as often as recommended, you will inevitably get the oil change service light alert on your driver’s dashboard. Simply changing the oil doesn’t make the alert disappear. Luckily, you won’t have to go to a mechanic to reset it.

CAUTION: Before carrying out the following steps, check to ensure all windows and doors are securely closed, along with the trunk and hood, to ensure a proper reset. The steps are as follows:

The third- and fourth-generation Mercedes cars, including the C250s, are perhaps the most reliable models in their class. They have an intuitive dashboard, but getting to the right settings could require a bit of getting used to. Here’s what you’ll need to do:

  1. Turn on your car’s ignition, but don’t start the engine.
  2. Use the arrows on the left side of the steering wheel to display the current mileage (and trip mileage).
  3. Press and hold the call button on the right side of the steering wheel.
  4. Immediately press and hold the OK button on the left side of the steering wheel. The two buttons have to be pressed nearly simultaneously for this to work.
  5. Hold the buttons until a new menu replaces the mileage display.
  6. Use the down arrow to scroll to “ASSYST PLUS,” then press OK.
  7. Scroll down to “Full Service” and hit OK.
  8. Go to “Configure Full Service” (Conf. Full Serv.) and select it.
  9. The screen will prompt you on whether you performed a full service of the vehicle. Select the “Yes” option and press OK.
  10. Select “Confirm” and press OK to complete the reset.

If you have an older car, the process may be a bit convoluted:

  1. Turn the key to position 2.
  2. Press the button “0” twice quickly.
  3. Turn the key to position 0.
  4. Press and hold the “0” button while moving the key from position 0 to 2.
  5. Continue to hold the “0” button until the screen prompts you with an oil change display (10,000-mile countdown).
  6. Release the “0” button.

If this doesn’t work, consult your manual. Older cars (pre-1997) may have alternative methods.

In these models, the sequence for resetting the oil change light and alert changed between one year and the next. You should consult your car’s owner’s manual or determine precisely what make and model you have. In general, here’s what you should be able to do to reset the oil change light:

  1. Turn the key to position 2.
  2. Display the odometer by pressing the bottom buttons on the left side of the steering wheel.
  3. Use the arrows on the steering wheel to scroll to “FSS.”
  4. Press and hold “R” for four seconds.
  5. The screen should prompt you with a question on whether you want to reset the service interval.
  6. Press “R” to confirm.
  7. You may need to press and hold “R” again until you receive a new message that the new service interval has been set.

Note: All makes and models of the Mercedes C250 may not consist of the same steps as specifically listed above, but generally should be extremely close. In addition, if the resetting information is not included in your manufacturer’s manual, or you do not have one, get the instructions and repair procedures from the manufacturer or Mercedes dealership for your specific vehicle. The steps contained in this tutorial are meant to be a recommendation only.
