Mazda CX-5: Reset TPMS

If you just bought your Mazda CX-5, be aware that you must reset the tire pressure monitoring system after adjusting it, replacing the batteries, or inflating the tires. It’s also a good idea to initialize the TPMS when the yellow light keeps blinking.

2017 – 2022 Models

  1. Park your vehicle and allow the tires to cool.
  2. Inflate all the tires to their recommended pressure as indicated in your owner’s manual.
  3. Turn the ignition to the ON position. Remember not to start the car.
  4. Wait for about fifteen minutes while the engine is still off.
  5. Now drive the vehicle at 30mph for up to ten minutes, and the tire pressure sensor ID signal code will automatically detect after ten minutes, resetting the TPMS.

If you use a TPMS scan tool, below is a procedure to help fix the indicator warning light.

  1. Park your vehicle and allow the tires to cool.
  2. Inflate all the tires to the recommended pressure.
  3. Using an accurately formatted scan tool, scan all the sensors, including the spare tire, starting from the LF tire, RF, RR, and then LR.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, then connect the scan tool to the Mazda’s OBDII port located beneath the steering wheel on the left side.
  5. Upload each sensor ID.
  6. Turn OFF the ignition.
  7. Restart your car and drive your Mazda to above 30mph for up to five minutes.

2013 – 2016 Models

  1. Drive at or above 50mph for up to ten minutes to help the TPMS sensor reset.
  2. Park your vehicle and ensure to turn OFF the engine.
  3. Let the tires cool, then inflate the four tires, including the spare tire, since it may also have a sensor. Adjust the tires per the recommendation on the driver’s door panel placard.
  4. Now turn the engine ON.
  5. On the dash, press the tire warning reset button until you confirm that the indicator light now blinks twice with a beep sound. The tire pressure reset button is usually located below the steering wheel. If you fail to find it, check your owner’s manual.
  6. Wait a few minutes for the sensor to reset.
  7. Turn the engine to the LOCK or ACC position.
