Mazda 6: Reset TPMS

The TPMS or tire pressure monitoring system notifies you when there’s low tire pressure. You first must ensure that all your tires are at the recommended pressure before trying to fix the problem. If the light persists after reinflating your tires, you may need to reset your TPMS.

2014 – 2022 Models

  1. Inflate your tires, including the spare tire, to the recommended tire pressure. You can find your recommended tire pressure on the driver’s door jamb placard or the fuel tank door.
  2. Turn the ignition to the on position. If your Mazda has a keyless start, press the start/stop button, but do not press the brake pedal.
  3. On the left side of the dash, next to the steering wheel, is the TPMS button. Press and hold the TPMS button until the yellow light flashes twice.
  4. Release the button, and you will hear a beep. This is an indication that the sensor has reset.

2008 – 2013 Models

  1. Inflate your tires, including the spare tire, to the recommended tire pressure. You can find your recommended tire pressure on the driver’s door jamb placard or the fuel tank door.
  2. Turn the ignition to the on position, then turn it off.
  3. Wait at least 15 minutes before restarting your car.
  4. For the sensor to register, you will have to drive for about ten minutes at a speed of at least 30mph.

Using a Scan Tool

Note: You will need to purchase a TPMS scan tool to complete this type of TPMS reset. You can purchase the required tool online or at any auto shop.

  1. Inflate your tires, including the spare tire, to the recommended tire pressure. You can find your recommended tire pressure on the driver’s door jamb placard or the fuel tank door.
  2. Turn the ignition to the on position, then turn it off.
  3. Using your TPMS tool, you will need to place the tool against the tire and wait for the tool to register the tire. Start from the LF wheel to RF, followed by RR, and lastly, LR. Include the spare tire too.
  4. Turn on the ignition, then connect the tool to the OBDII port and ensure to upload all the pressure sensor IDs.
  5. Now turn off the ignition, then turn it back on.
  6. Drive the vehicle for about ten minutes at a speed of at least 30mph to ensure a TPMS reset is complete.
