Driving is better when listening to your favorite music or podcasts; nothing can ruin your mood except if your stereo system stops working. Thankfully, all it takes is a quick reboot, and you can get back on the road. Below are the steps for resetting your stereo system based on your car’s model year.

2020 – 2022 Models
- Press and hold the volume knob, navigation button, and back button simultaneously for ten seconds.
- The stereo system of the Mazda 6 will rest automatically.
2014 – 2019 Models
- Press and hold the back, navigation, and mute buttons for ten seconds.
- The stereo system of the Mazda 6 will rest automatically.
2009 – 2013 Models
You may need to reset the head unit of your Mazda 6 2009-2013 models. To perform this function, follow the following procedure.
- Open your car hood and locate the car battery.
- Disconnect the negative terminal of your car battery and leave it on the disconnected mode for at least 20 seconds.
- Reconnect the negative terminal of your car battery and safely close the hood.
- Inside your car, locate the fuse box on the left of your car screen.
- The car screen will say, “a program cannot read; consult the dealer.”
- Open the box door and remove the chip-like memory card used for navigation.
- Return the memory card used for navigation and close the small door.
- Click agree after the authentication message appears on the car screen. The screen will then turn off.
- Start the car engine and press agree.
- Locate the enter button on the steering wheel and press it.
- The stereo system will reset.
2006 – 2009 Models
- After viewing the error on display, turn the car on.
- Press the preset 6, AM, Auto M, and Seek buttons one at a time.
- Enter the stereo code, which you can find in the car’s manual.
- Press and hold preset number 6 and Auto M simultaneously.
- The word “GOOD” will show on the screen if the radio works.
- Turn the car off, and it will reset when you turn it back on.
2002 – 2005 Models
- Open the hood and locate the car battery.
- Disconnect the negative terminal of your car battery
- Leave it for about 10 minutes before you reconnect.
- The stereo system will reset automatically after reconnecting.
