Mazda 6: How to Reset Maintenance Light

A maintenance light will appear on the instrument panel when an oil change is due for the Mazda 6. Once you have taken the vehicle in to have it serviced, you can perform an oil reset using these steps.

2018-2023 Models

  1. Starting from the Home screen, select the “Applications” icon.
  2. Select “Vehicle Status Monitor.”
  3. Select “Maintenance.”
  4. Select “Oil Change.”
  5. Select “Reset.”

2012 – 2017 Models

  1. Turn the ignition key to the “Off” position.
  2. Press and hold the “Trip” button on the instrument cluster.
  3. While holding the “Trip” button, turn the ignition key to the “On” position, but do not start the engine.
  4. Continue holding the “Trip” button until the maintenance light starts to flash.
  5. Release the “Trip” button.
  6. Press and release the “Trip” button again to cycle through the menu options until the maintenance wrench icon appears.
  7. Press and hold the “Trip” button again until the maintenance wrench icon starts to flash.
  8. Release the “Trip” button and then press and hold it again for another few seconds until the maintenance wrench icon turns off.
  9. Release the “Trip” button and turn the ignition key to the “Off” position.

2002-2011 Models

  1. Turn the ignition key to the “Off” position.
  2. Press and hold the “Trip” or “Select/Reset” button on the instrument cluster.
  3. While holding the “Trip” or “Select/Reset” button, turn the ignition key to the “On” position but do not start the engine.
  4. Continue holding the “Trip” or “Select/Reset” button until the maintenance light flashes.
  5. Release the “Trip” or “Select/Reset” button.
  6. Press and hold the “Trip” or “Select/Reset” button again for another few seconds until the maintenance light turns off.
  7. Release the “Trip” or “Select/Reset” button and turn the ignition key to the “Off” position.

You may have to try these steps a few times before it actually works. If you still have problems, you may need to take your Mazda 6 to an authorized service center to have the oil reset.
