  1. i had this problem in my 2016 Wrangler JFK, battery went nearly flat and trying to start the car (not enough power to turn the starter) took away all the remaining current from the standard radio install and was now asking for the code which i didn’t have. I discounted and recharged the battery which took me nearly 2 days with my small charger, reconnected battery once fully charger and no code was asked for and all my settings were still on place – not really sure why it didn’t ask for the code but some observations ???

Observations : I had powered off the unit prior to disconnecting and charging the battery. Radio had no power for 2 days, i unlocked the car with key fob once the fully charged battery was reconnected. Powered on radio in normal way (no special holding of buttons etc).

Not sure why it didn’t ask for the code second time – perhaps it recognizes the car it is in ?

  2. 2012 Jeep JKU radio died after swapping battery (didn’t realize an alternative power source was recommended). No screen, no lights, nothing. Everything else in vehicle worked fine. Radio fuse checked fine (M12), so did fuse box for voltage and actual power. Pulled radio, tested yellow/red (hot) had power to radio plug. Tried everything recommended here and everywhere else, including disconnecting battery, button pressing sequence(s), etc., nothing worked. By this time, radio had been removed and installed several times with no success. Took radio apart removing tiny torx and separated CD player from radio, which required removing ribbon cable and a small plug. Did not spot any damage or burns indicating something might have died. Did not remove any circuit boards, so put it back together. Reconnected internal ribbon cables and plug. Put radio back in Jeep – and it finally worked. I’ve spent several days trying to trace the problem and can only assume that an internal wire failed to make connection or perhaps there is a digital fuse that would not reset when the power was disconnected for the battery replacement? Whatever it actually was, it shouldn’t have happened (poor design). Was right on the verge of just buying something aftermarket.
