How to Update Ford SYNC Software

Updating SYNC Using a USB Drive

  1. Obtain the VIN for your Ford.
  2. Have a formatted USB flash drive inserted into a USB port on your computer, and visit from a PC.
  3. Enter your VIN, then select “Prepare SYNC download“.
  4. Once the file finishes downloading, Windows users can right-click on it, then select “Extract All“.
  5. Select the drive letter for your USB drive, then select “Extract“.
  6. Once the files are extracted, eject it from your computer.
  7. Turn on the vehicle electronics in your Ford and insert the USB drive into a USB port.
  8. Go to “Menu” > “SYNC-Settings” and select “OK“.
