How to Turn Off the VSC Light in a Chevy Malibu

2016 – 2023 Models

1. Park your Malibu on a level surface, and turn off the engine.
2. Locate the OBD-II port under the dashboard near the steering column.
3. Insert the OBD-II scanner into the port.
4. Turn your car’s ignition to the “On” position without starting the engine.
5. Use the scanner to retrieve Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) related to the VSC system.
6. Select the option to clear the codes. Confirm the action.
7. Safely remove the scanner from the OBD-II port.
8. Start your Malibu’s engine and check if the VSC light is off.

1997 – 2007 & 2013 – 2015 Models

1. Park your vehicle safely and switch off the engine.
2. Locate the fuse box under the dashboard or in the engine compartment.
3. Carefully open the fuse box cover.
4. Look for the fuse labeled “ABS” or “VSC.”
   1. In the 2004 – 2007 Models the fuse is labeled “ECM.”
   2. In the 1997 – 2003 Models the fuse is labeled “PCM.”
5. Use a fuse puller or pliers to gently remove the identified fuse.
6. Leave the fuse out for about 10 minutes, then reinsert it.
7. Start your Malibu’s engine and check if the VSC light has turned off.

2008 – 2012 Models

1. Park your car in a secure area and turn off the engine.
2. Locate the battery in the engine compartment.
3. Use a wrench to loosen the negative (-) battery terminal nut. Move it aside.
4. Leave the terminal disconnected for about 15 minutes.
5. Tighten the negative terminal nut back in place.
6. Start your Malibu’s engine and verify if the VSC light is no longer illuminated.
