Why Is the TPMS Light On?

TPMS stands for Tire Pressure Monitoring System. It warns you when one or more tires are significantly underinflated, and on some vehicles it can also illuminate after a tire rotation, sensor replacement, wheel change, or battery service if the system needs to relearn sensor positions.

Before resetting the warning, check all tires when cold and inflate them to the pressure listed on the driver-side door-jamb placard. Do not use the maximum pressure printed on the tire sidewall as your target. If the light flashes before staying on, that can indicate a TPMS system or sensor fault rather than simply low tire pressure.
