- Ensure your car is parked in a safe and level spot. Turn off the engine and remove the key from the ignition.
- Locate the OBD-II port under the dashboard on the driver’s side. When sitting in the driver’s seat, it should be close to your knees.
- You’ll need an OBD-II scanner to reset the traction control light. You can find these scanners at most auto parts stores or online.
- Plug the OBD-II scanner into the OBD-II port.
- Turn the key to the “ON” position, but don’t start the engine yet.
- Wait for the scanner to connect to your car’s computer system. You might see some lights blinking on the scanner.
- Once the scanner is connected, you should see a menu or a list of options on the screen. Use the arrow buttons on the scanner to navigate through the menu until you find the “Read Codes” or “Diagnostics” option.
- Select the “Read Codes” option to see any trouble codes stored in your car’s computer.
- Choose the “Clear Codes” option to reset the traction control light.
- The scanner will ask you to confirm that you want to clear the codes. Press “OK” or “Yes” to proceed.
- Unplug the OBD-II scanner from the port, and turn the key to the “OFF” position.
- Start the engine as you normally would. The traction control light should be gone, and everything should be back to normal.
It is important to note that resetting the Traction Control Light does not fix the underlying problem that caused the light to come on. If the light comes back on, a professional should diagnose the vehicle to identify and fix the underlying issue.
