How to Replace Key Fob Battery in a Hyundai Sonata

2014 – 2023 Models

  1. Purchase a new CR2032 battery. 
  2. Remove the metal key from the key fob by pressing and holding the button on the back. 
  3. Open the key fob.
  4. Set aside the fob buttons.
  5. Remove the old battery from the key fob.
  6. Place the new battery into the key fob.
  7. Close the key fob.

2004 – 2023 Models

  1. Purchase a new CR2032 battery. 
  2. Locate the small slot on the end of the fob, insert the screwdriver, and gently twist until the cover comes off. 
  3. Set aside the fob buttons.
  4. Remove the old battery from the key fob.
  5. Place the new battery into the key fob.
  6. Press the pieces back together to close the key fob.

1996 – 2003 Models

  1. Purchase a new 23AE battery. 
  2. Use a small Phillips screwdriver to carefully remove the screw located on the backside of the key fob. This screw secures the key fob’s cover in place.
  3. Take the flathead screwdriver and insert it into the notch at the top of the key fob. Twist the screwdriver to open the key fob. 
  4. Once the key fob is open, you will see the battery located inside.
  5. Carefully pop out the old battery from its slot. 
  6. Take the new battery and insert it into the battery slot in the key fob.
  7. Gently close the key fob by snapping the two halves together. Ensure that all the edges align correctly.
  8. Insert the small Phillips head screw back into its original position on the back of the key fob. Tighten the screw carefully until it is firmly in place.

Check if the key fob is working properly.
