2014 – 2023 Models
- Turn the key fob over to the backside.
- Locate a small lever on the backside of the key fob, move it to the side, and then push up to release the key.
- Remove the key from the key fob.
- You can use the key or your fingers to pry open the key fob. Gently separate the two halves of the key fob.
- Inside the key fob, you will find the battery. It requires a CR2032 battery.
- Lift the old battery out, either using a screwdriver or your fingers.
- Insert a new CR2032 battery into the battery slot. Make sure the “+” symbol on the battery is facing upward.
- Close the key fob by aligning the two halves and snapping them back together.
- Securely close the key fob.
- Place the key back into the key fob.
- Test the key fob to make sure it is working properly.
2001 – 2013 Models
- Flip the key fob over and locate the small screw at the base of the fob.
- Use a precision screwdriver set to unscrew and remove the small screw.
- Look for a notch in the middle of the fob’s base. Insert a small flat-head screwdriver into the notch and twist to loosen the key’s base.
- Once the base is loose, gently pull it towards you to remove it from the fob.
- Inside the key fob, you’ll find an internal piece containing the battery. Carefully pull out this piece, revealing the battery and buttons.
- Examine the internal piece and locate another notch on the upper right corner. Use a flat-head screwdriver to twist and separate this piece into two parts.
- With the two parts separated, access the battery. Use a screwdriver to get underneath the battery and pop it out.
- The battery you need to replace is a CR 1616 3-volt coin battery. Insert the new battery into the designated slot, ensuring it fits securely.
- Reassemble the internal piece by aligning the two parts and snapping them back together. Make sure the buttons are correctly positioned.
- Place the internal piece back into the key fob shell.
- When putting the shell back on, a small ridge on the top of the internal piece should align correctly with the shell’s opening.
- Carefully press the shell and internal piece together until they close securely.
- Insert the small screw back into the base of the key fob and tighten it with the precision screwdriver.
- Test the buttons to confirm everything is working correctly.
