How to Program Key Fob in a Hyundai Elantra

2019 – 2023 Models

  1. Get into the driver’s seat and close all doors.
  2. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the “ON” position without starting the engine.
  3. Press the “Lock” button on the fob and hold it down for a few seconds.
  4. While holding down the “Lock” button, press and hold the “Panic” button for about one second, and then release both buttons simultaneously.
  5. Wait for the car to beep once, indicating the programming mode has been entered.
  6. Press the “Lock” button on the fob again and wait for the car to beep twice, indicating that the fob has been programmed.
  7. Repeat the steps for each additional fob you wish to program.
  8. Turn the ignition off and remove the key.

2010 – 2018 Models

  1. Sit in the driver’s seat and ensure that all car doors are closed.
  2. Insert the ignition key into the ignition switch and then remove it.
  3. Within 5 seconds of removing the key, press and hold the “Unlock” button on the driver’s side door.
  4. While holding the “Unlock” button, insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to the “ON” position.
  5. After 5-10 seconds, release the “Unlock” button on the door. At this point, the doors should automatically lock and then unlock to indicate that the car is in programming mode.
  6. Within 30 seconds, simultaneously press and hold the “Lock” and “Unlock” buttons on the new key fob. Hold them for about 10 seconds.
  7. Release the buttons on the key fob. The doors should automatically lock and unlock again, indicating successful programming of the key fob.
  8. To program additional key fobs, repeat the steps within 30 seconds of programming the previous one.
  9. Once you have finished programming all the key fobs, turn the ignition switch to the “OFF” position.

2007 – 2009 Models

  1. Make sure all doors, including the trunk and hood, are closed. 
  2. Insert the original key into the ignition and turn it to the “ON” position. Do not start the engine.
  3. Locate the “Learn” button under the driver’s side dashboard or behind a small panel near the steering column.
  4. Press and hold the “Learn” button until you see the security light on the dashboard flash. The duration of the flashing may vary depending on the vehicle.
  5. While the security light is flashing, press the “Lock” button on the key fob you want to program. Hold the button until the security light flashes again, indicating the programming was successful.
  6. If you have more than one key fob to program, repeat the process for each additional fob within 30 seconds to a minute.
  7. After programming all the key fobs, turn off the ignition and remove the key from the ignition. 

2000 – 2006 Models

  1. Sit in the driver’s seat and close all doors, the trunk, and the hood.
  2. Insert the ignition key and turn it to the “ON” position without starting the engine.
  3. Press the “Lock” or “Unlock” button on the key fob within a few seconds of turning the key to “ON.”
  4. Turn the key back to the “OFF” position.
  5. Repeat the previous step three times (turning the key to “ON” and pressing a button on the key fob).
  6. When the doors lock and unlock automatically, the programming is successful.
