Honda CRV: How to Reset Oil Life

The Honda CRV has a feature that shows you the Engine Oil Life. It is shown as a percentage. The higher the percentage number, the more Engine Oil Life you have left.

You’ll need to reset the Engine Oil Life indicator when you change the oil. Here’s how it is done.


2007-2022 Models

Option 1

  1. Turn the ignition to the first position. Do not start the engine.
  2. Press the “Trip” stem to toggle it to show “Engine Oil Life“.
  3. Press and hold the “Trip” stem for about 10 seconds until the display starts blinking. Once blinking, release the “Trip” stem.
  4. Turn/twist the “Trip” step to choose the “Reset” option.
  5. Press and hold the “Trip” stem again, this time for 5 seconds. The Oil Life will reset to 100%.

Option 2

  1. Turn the ignition to the first position. Do not start the engine.
  2. Press the “i” on the steering wheel to toggle over to “Maintenance Minder“.
  3. Press “Enter” to select “Maintenance Minder(wrench icon).
  4. Press and hold “Enter” for about 10 seconds until it enters Reset Mode.
  5. Scroll to “Engine Oil Life“, then press “Enter“.

Option 3 (Touchscreen Models)

From the Home screen, choose “Settings” > “Vehicle” > “Maintenance Info” > “Select Reset Items” > “Engine Oil Life


2002-2006 Models

These model years will display a wrench or “Maintenance Required” notification light when due for an oil change. Reset it with these instructions.

  1. Turn the ignition to the “II” position by turning the key.
  2. Turn the ignition to the “OFF” position, then push and hold in the Odometer “Reset/Trip” button.
  3. Continue to hold the Odometer “Reset/Trip” button wile turning the ignition back to the “II” position.

The maintenance light on your Honda CRV should be cleared and turn off.

    • I agree. Gave me the correct information. Honda can sell a $40,000 CR-V, but can’t publish an owner’s manual that is specific to certain model

  1. Hello! Very informative article! I have 2019 honda crv ex with touchscreen. I was getting maintenance code B so after changing engine oil and filter, I tried “Settings” > “Vehicle” > “Maintenance Info” > “Select Reset Items” > “Engine Oil Life” method like you suggested above.

    Somehow it switched to maintenance code A. I tried to clear it using the same method above but it still doesn’t go away.

    I really appreciate if you can provide some idea to clear this code.
