The first step to resetting the stereo system in a Honda Civic is to acquire the Honda’s radio code. You need your Vehicle Identity Number (VIN) and the radio serial number to get the code. You can retrieve your VIN from the driver’s side of the dashboard close to the windscreen. You can also find the VIN on your vehicle registration or insurance card.
Follow the steps below to acquire the radio’s serial number:
- Turn the ignition on.
- Turn off the stereo system so the screen is blank.
- Press and hold the one and six-button on the radio simultaneously.
- Turn the radio on using your free hand.
- An eight-digit serial number will appear on your screen.
- Write down the serial number or take a picture on your phone.
After getting the code using the serial number and the VIN, use the method below to reset the stereo system:
- Turn the vehicle ignition on.
- Turn the radio on.
- The radio will display the word Code.
- Enter the five-digit code.
