Honda Civic: How to Open the Hood

Opening the hood of a car can change from vehicle to vehicle. And it can be difficult to get it open if you’re unfamiliar with the Honda Civic. So here’s our step-by-step guide on how to open the hood of a Honda Civic.

2016–2022 Models

1. Locate the hood release lever on the left-hand side of the steering wheel below the dashboard.
2. As you pull the lever up, you should hear the hood pop open slightly.
3. Go around to the front of your car, and put your hand beneath the hood, just above the Honda symbol.
4. If you shift your hand over a little bit to the left, you’ll feel the safety clutch.
5. Push the safety clutch to the right.
6. Raise the hood to open.

2007–2015 Models

Follow the steps below:

1. Look by the footrest area on the driver’s side to locate the hood release lever.
2. Pull the lever outwards.
3. You should hear a pop as the hood opens slightly.
4. Place your hand underneath the hood close to the center to feel the safety clutch.
5. Pull the safety clutch up.
6. Get out of the car and raise the hood to open.
