Honda Civic: Enable/Disable Auto Lock

The Auto Lock feature on the Honda Civic will automatically lock the doors when the remote transmitter is more than 5 feet away from the vehicle. It will also automatically unlock the doors. You can turn this feature to automatically lock and unlock on or off using these steps.

2012-2021 Models

Setting Door Lock Behavior

  1. Place the vehicle in Park.
  2. Access the information display, then from the Home screen, select “Settings“.
  3. Choose “Vehicle” or “Vehicle Settings” depending on your model.
  4. Select “Door/Window Setup“.
  5. Select “Walk Away Auto Lock“, “Auto Door Lock“
  6. Choose when you would like the door to lock:
    • With Vehicle Speed – Doors automatically lock when a certain speed is reached.
    • Shift from P – Doors lock when the gear is shifted out of Park
    • Off – Auto Locks are disabled.

Note: Some models of the Honda Civic will only have the option of “On” or “Off” on this menu.

Setting Door Unlock Behavior

  1. Place the vehicle in Park.
  2. Access the information display, then from the Home screen, select “Settings“.
  3. Choose “Vehicle” or “Vehicle Settings” depending on your model.
  4. Select “Door/Window Setup“.
  5. Select “Walk Away Auto Lock“, “Auto Door Unlock“
  6. Choose when you would like the door to unlock:
    • All Doors When Driver’s Door Opens
    • All Doors When Shifted to Park
    • All Doors When Ignition Switched Off
    • Off

Note: Some models of the Honda Civic will only have the option of “On” or “Off” on this menu.


2006-2011 Models

Programming Park Lock Mode

The following steps will program the Civic to automatically lock the doors when the shift is moved out of “P“.

  1. Move the shift to “P” and close all doors.
  2. Apply the parking brake.
  3. Turn the ignition to the “On” position. Do not start the engine.
  4. From the driver’s side, push and hold the front of the master door lock switch. You should hear a click. Continue holding the switch until you hear another click.
  5. Release the switch, and quickly (within 5 seconds) turn the ignition to the “Lock” position.

Programming Drive Lock Mode

The following steps will program the Civic to automatically lock when the vehicle reaches above 9 mph.

  1. Shut all doors and apply the parking brake.
  2. Turn the ignition to the “On” position. Do not start the engine.
  3. On A/T vehicles, push and hold the brake pedal and move the shift out of “P“.
  4. From the driver’s side, push and hold the front of the master door lock switch. You should hear a click. Continue holding the switch until you hear another click.
  5. Release the switch, and quickly (within 5 seconds) turn the ignition to the “Accessory” position. For A/T vehicles, move the gear back to “P“.
  6. Now turn the ignition to “Lock“.

Turn off Auto Door Lock

These steps will completely disable automatic door locks.

  1. Apply the parking brake and close all doors.
  2. Turn the ignition to the “On” position. Do not start the engine.
  3. Open the driver’s side door.
  4. On A/T vehicles, move the shift to “P“.
  5. From the driver’s side, push and hold the front of the master door lock switch. You should hear a click. Continue holding the switch until you hear another click.
  6. Release the switch, and quickly (within 5 seconds) turn the ignition to the “Lock” position.

Turn on Park Unlock Mode

These steps will make the Civic automatically unlock the driver’s door or both doors when it is placed in “P“.

  1. Apply the parking brake and close all doors.
  2. Turn the ignition to the “On” position. Do not start the engine.
  3. Push and hold the rear of the of the master door lock switch. You should hear a click. Continue holding the switch until you hear another click to enable just the driver’s door auto unlock or continue holding the switch until the second click to set all doors to auto unlock.
  4. Release the switch, and quickly (within 5 seconds) turn the ignition to the “Lock” position.

Ignition Unlock Mode

These steps will make the Civic automatically unlock the driver’s door or all doors when the ignition is switched out of the “On” position.

  1. Shut all doors and apply the parking brake.
  2. Turn the ignition to the “On” position. Do not start the engine.
  3. On A/T vehicles, push and hold the brake pedal and move the shift out of “P“.
  4. Push and hold the rear of the of the master door lock switch. You should hear a click. Continue holding the switch until you hear another click to enable just the driver’s door auto unlock or continue holding the switch until the second click to set all doors to auto unlock.
  5. Release the switch, and quickly (within 5 seconds) turn the ignition to the “Accessory” position. On A/T models, move the shift to “P“.
  6. Now turn the ignition to “Lock“.

Turn off Auto Unlock

  1. These steps will completed disable automatic door unlocking
  2. Apply the parking brake and close all doors.
  3. Turn the ignition to the “On” position.
  4. On A/T vehicles, move the shift to “P“.
  5. From the driver’s side, push and hold the front of the master door lock switch. You should hear a click. Continue holding the switch until you hear another click.
  6. Release the switch, and quickly (within 5 seconds) turn the ignition to the “Lock” position.

    There is no “Door/Window setup” on the screen of my 2015 Civic
