Whether going on a hike, helping someone to move, or running trash to the dump, the GMC Yukon trunk comes in handy. However, sometimes things don’t work, and you may struggle. Issues such as power failure, lock problems, and even not having the correct know-how may make the process daunting and frustrating.

2010 – 2023 Models
Manual Operation
- Unlock all car doors.
- Press the unlock button on the power door lock switch or the unlock button twice on the key fob.
- Standing at the rear of your car, locate the liftgate handle.
- Lift the handle up to open the trunk of your Yukon.
- To only open the rear trunk glass door, press the button directly above the license plate and lift.
- Or, press the liftgate key on the key fob twice quickly.
Note: The trunk glass door should not be open when opening the liftgate.
Power Liftgate Operation
Note: The liftgate modes are MAX or 3/4. Max fully opens the trunk, while 3/4 does not open it fully.
- Ensure your car is in park with the car unlocked.
- Press the trunk/liftgate key on the remote twice quickly until the trunk opens.
OR
- Ensure your car is in park with the car unlocked.
- Press the trunk button on the overhead console.
- The trunk will open.
2000 – 2009 Models
Manual Operation
- Ensure your car is in park with the car unlocked.
- Insert the key into the lock.
- Turn it counterclockwise to unlock the glass and the liftgate.
- Lift the handle at the center of the trunk door to open the trunk.
Power Liftgate Operation
- Ensure your car is in park with the car unlocked.
- Press and hold the power liftgate button on your key fob until the trunk begins to open.
OR
- Ensure your car is in park with the car unlocked.
- Press the liftgate button on your vehicle’s overhead console.
- The trunk will open.
OR
- Ensure your car is in park with the car unlocked.
- Press the touchpad switch on the outside trunk handle.
- The trunk will open.
