Ford Maverick: How to Open the Hood

Ford Motor Company manufactured the Ford Maverick as a smaller, more cost-effective SUV alternative. First introduced in 1970, it has multiple models, each with a distinct design. The Ford Maverick was renowned for its dependable performance and straightforward, practical design. It was available with two and four-door body styles,  air conditioning, and power windows.

Opening the hood on different Ford Maverick models is consistent across many years. Follow the process below to open the hood of your car.

  1. Locate the hood release lever on the driver’s side floorboard near the front of the seat.
  2. Pull the hood release lever towards the driver’s seat to release the hood latch.
  3. Move to the front of the vehicle and locate the hood release catch in the center of the front grille.
  4. Push the hood release catch to the side to release the hood latch.
  5. Lift the hood and support it with the hood prop rod, which is usually located on the underside of the hood.

It’s important to note that some Ford Mavericks from this era may have different hood release mechanisms, such as a pull tab or button located on the dashboard. If you’re having difficulty locating the hood release lever or opening the hood, consult the owner’s manual or a certified Ford mechanic.

Did the Ford Maverick Stop Production?

Despite being useful and inexpensive, the Ford Maverick found it difficult to compete with other compact SUVs on the market, and it was eventually phased out. However, because of its distinctive form and vintage appeal, it continued to be a preferred option for vehicle lovers and collectors. Then in 2021, a newly reimagined Ford Maverick hit the market, bringing a once-beloved icon back to the road.
