Ford Fusion: How to Open Hood

Wondering where to find the hood open latch on a Ford Fusion? It’s not that hard, and acting the hood can help you keep up with car maintenance. We’ll walk you through a step-by-step process by model year. Here’s how to open the hood:

2021-2023 Models

  1. While inside the vehicle, locate the hood release lever on the driver’s side, right next to the driver’s side door.
  2. Pull the bar forward to pop the hood.
  3. Exit the vehicle, and feel around under the hood for the secondary lever. It is located to the left and is usually a bright color. Pull the lever and lift the hood.
  4. Secure the hood open with the bar.

2013 – 2020

  1. Open the driver’s side door.
  2. Locate the hood release lever on the driver’s left-hand side near the floor. You can easily identify the lever by the image of a car with an open hood printed on the front.
  3. Pull the hood release lever.
  4. Walk to the front of the car, placing yourself to the right of the Ford emblem.
  5. Locate a small opening between the hood and the body of the car.
  6. Slide your hand into this gap with your palm facing down.
  7. Feel for the safety catch.
  8. Slide the safety catch left.
  9. Raise the hood.
  10. Locate the hood prop directly behind the safety latch.
  11. Insert the hood prop into the underside of the hood to safely support the hood.

2006 – 2012

  1. Open the driver’s side door.
  2. Locate the hood release lever on the driver’s left-hand side near the floor. You can easily identify the lever by the image of a car with an open hood printed on the front.
  3. Pull the hood release lever.
  4. Walk to the front of the car, placing yourself near the center of the hood.
  5. Locate a small opening between the hood and the body of the car.
  6. Slide your hand into this gap with your palm facing down.
  7. Feel for the safety catch.
  8. Slide the safety catch left.
  9. Raise the hood.
  10. Locate the hood prop directly behind the safety latch.
  11. Insert the hood prop into the underside of the hood to safely support the hood.
