Every once in a while, you will want to check under the hood of your car for one reason or another. Be it to check the coolant level or replenish the windshield cleaner. Let us guide you on how to open the hood on your Ford Flex.

2009 – 2019 Models
- Locate the hood latch inside the car. (The hood latch is located on the driver’s side of the car below the steering wheel at the bottom of the instrumental panel.)
- Pull the hood latch towards you till you hear the hood pop. (Sometimes, the hood may get stuck and not pop, so you may pull again to confirm. (The latch should be easier to pull the second time if the hood is open.)
- Walk to the front of the car and slightly lift the hood to allow space for your fingers to reach the secondary hood latch. (The latch is under the hood’s front center.)
- Release the hood by pushing the secondary hood latch to your left.
- Lift the hood with your right hand and use your left hand to reach for the hood prop to support the hood.
- Support the hood with the hood prop by placing the prop in a hole in the inner frame of the car.
Closing the Hood
- Remove the hood prop from its positioning hole and secure it properly in its securing latch.
- Lower the hood slowly and push it down with both hands till it clicks.
If it doesn’t click, especially with older models, here’s what you can do:
- Go inside the car and pull the interior hood latch, as it may be stuck in the “release” position.
- Go back to the front and push the hood down again. This time it should click.
