Ford F150: How to Reset Oil Life

The Ford F150 will display a “Change Engine Oil Soon” message when it senses you need to change your oil. Learn how to reset the Oil Life with these steps.

2021 – 2023 Models

  1. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the “Run” position without starting the engine.
  2. Locate the “Settings” or “Menu” button on the steering wheel or instrument cluster.
  3. Navigate to the “Oil Life” menu using the arrow buttons or scroll wheel.
  4. Select “Reset” or “Reset Oil Life.”
  5. Confirm the reset by selecting “Yes” or pressing the corresponding button.
  6. Turn off the ignition and remove the key from the ignition switch.

2015-2021 Models

XL non-101A Package Models

  1. Use the arrow buttons on the left side of the steering wheel to scroll all the way left to the main menu.
  2. Use the down arrow to highlight “Settings.”
  3. Use the right arrow to toggle over to “Vehicle.”
  4. Use the right arrow to toggle over to “Oil Life Reset.”
  5. Press and hold the “OK” button for about 3 seconds, and the oil life will reset.

XLT – XL with 101A Package Models

  1. Use the arrow buttons on the left side of the steering wheel to scroll all the way left to the main menu.
  2. Use the arrows to highlight “Display Mode,” then use the right arrow to select it.
  3. Scroll down to “Engine Information.”
  4. Press and hold the “OK” button for about 3 seconds, and the oil life will reset.

Lariat & Above Models

  1. Use the arrow buttons on the left side of the steering wheel to select “Truck Info.”
  2. Select “Engine Information,” then press “OK.”
  3. Press and hold the “OK” button for about 3 seconds, and the oil life will reset.

2009-2014 Models

These models will show an “Engine Oil Change Soon” message. To clear it, follow these steps.

  1. Turn the electronics on. Do not start the engine.
  2. Use the stem button on the instrument panel to toggle the selection to “Hold Reset For Setup Menu.”
  3. Press and hold the stem button. The Oil Life will be displayed.
  4. With the Oil Life displayed, press and hold the stem button again until it shows as being reset.
  5. Turn the ignition off. When you turn the ignition back on, the Oil Life will be reset.

1992 – 2008 Models

  1. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the “Run” position without starting the engine.
  2. Locate the “Reset,” “Oil Life,” or “Info” button on the instrument cluster.
  3. Press and hold the “Reset,” “Oil Life,” or “Info” button for several seconds.
  4. Once the oil life indicator starts flashing or resets, release the “Reset,” “Oil Life,” or “Info” button.
  5. Turn off the ignition and remove the key from the ignition switch.
