Ford Escape: How to Reset Oil Life

The Ford Escape will display an “Oil Change Required” or “Change Engine Oil Soon” message on the instrument panel whenever the vehicle has traveled about 3,000 miles since the last oil reset. Once you have had maintenance service performed on the vehicle, use these steps to reset the oil life.

2020-2023 Models

  1. Press the “Engine Start/Stop” button once without holding the brake. Do not start the engine.
  2. Press the ☰ “Menu” button on the steering wheel to display the menu options.
  3. Use the ▲▼ arrows on the steering wheel to highlight “Settings.” Press OK to select.
  4. Use the ▲▼ arrows to highlight “Oil Life.” Press “OK” to select.
  5. Press and hold the “OK” button for about 3 seconds. This should complete the reset.

2017 – 2019 Models

  1. Turn the car ON. If you have a push-button start, press and hold the button for two seconds. Do NOT start the vehicle.
  2. Press the left arrow on the left side of the steering wheel.
  3. Scroll to Settings and press OK.
  4. Scroll to Vehicle and press OK.
  5. Scroll to Oil Life Reset and press OK.
  6. Press and hold OK to reset the oil life. The reset is complete when the percentage is at 100%.
  7. Turn the vehicle off.

2013 – 2016 Models

  1. Turn the car ON. If you have a push-button start, press and hold the button for two seconds. Do NOT start the vehicle.
  2. Press and hold the gas and the brake pedal simultaneously.
  3. After three seconds, “Service: Oil Reset in Prog” will appear on the menu.
  4. After another 25 seconds or so, “Service: Oil Reset Complete” will come up.
  5. Release both pedals. The message will disappear.
  6. Turn the vehicle off.

2008 – 2012 Models

  1. Turn the car ON. Do NOT start the cat.
  2. Press the Reset button until you get to the mileage.
  3. Press and hold Setup until it shows “Reset for System Check.”
  4. Press and hold Setup until “Oil Life” comes up.
  5. Press and hold Reset until the percentage reads 100%.

2001 – 2007 Models

  1. Turn the car ON. Do NOT start the cat.
  2. Press the INFO button on the center console until the dash menu says, “Press Set for Sys Chck.”
  3. Press Set. A new screen will come up with the oil life.
  4. Press and hold Set until the system has gone through several system checks.
  5. When the menu screen stops changing, the reset is complete.

  1. Just tried on my 2015. Does not work. You have to turn it on and THEN press the gas and brake. Pedals and then turn on does not work.
