Ford Bronco: How To Open Trunk

The Ford Bronco is one of the first SUVs and the first made by Ford. Due to unfortunate publicity surrounding the vehicle, Ford did not make models from 1997 to 2020.

The trunk for these vehicles (particularly the older models) can be difficult to access. If you have trouble opening or closing the tailgate (and trunk) of your Ford Bronco, whatever the year, keep reading below for step-by-step instructions to help you access your trunk.

The trunk can be opened using either the key fob or a button inside the vehicle.

  1. Press and hold the trunk release button on the key fob for about one second to open the cargo area.
  2. Alternatively, you can press the trunk release button located on the driver’s side door panel, just below the window controls, to open the cargo area.

Note: If you have the optional swing gate with the flip-up glass window, you can also open it to access the cargo area.

  1. Release the swing gate by lifting the latch handle located in the center of the spare tire cover.
  2. Swing the gate open and lift the glass window.

1995 – 1996 Models

  1. Locate the tailgate handle in the center of the tailgate, just below the rear window.
  2. Push in the lock cylinder located on the tailgate handle.
  3. Lift the tailgate handle to release the latch mechanism.
  4. Pull the tailgate towards you to open it.
