Fiat 500: How to Open the Hood

If you need to access your engine compartment, you need to know how to open the hood of your Fiat 500. Follow the steps below.

Pre-2011 – 2023 Models

1. Locate the hood release lever on the driver’s side of the dashboard, near the bottom of the instrument panel.
2. Pull the hood release lever towards you. You should hear a popping sound indicating the hood release has been activated.
3. Go to the front of the car and look for the hood latch. It is located near the center of the hood, just above the Fiat emblem.
4. Press down on the hood latch and lift the hood simultaneously.
5. Use the support rod on the hood’s underside to prop it up and keep it open.

Safety Tips

• If the hood is not properly closed, once the engine is on, it will indicate on the system check that it is open.
• When investigating anything under your hood, ensure your engine is switched off and cold.
