Learn how to reset the oil change light on the Ford Explorer using these steps.
2021 – 2023 Models
- Turn the ignition key to the “On” position without starting the engine.
- Use the right arrow button on the steering wheel to scroll through the menu until you reach “Settings.” Then press the OK button on the steering wheel.
- Use the right arrow button to scroll through the menu until you reach “Vehicle.” Then press the OK button.
- Use the right arrow button to scroll through the menu until you reach “Oil Life.” Then press the OK button.
- Use the up or down arrow to highlight “Reset.” Press the OK button.
- Use the up or down arrow to highlight “Yes.” Press the OK button.
- The message “Oil Life Reset Complete” should appear on the dashboard display.
- Turn off the ignition.
2011 – 2020 Models
- Turn the ignition key to the “On” position without starting the engine.
- Press the “Setup” button located near the speedometer display.
- Use the “+” or “-” button to scroll to “System Check” and press the “Reset” button located on the dashboard near the speedometer display.
- Use the “+” or “-” button to scroll to “Oil Life.” Press the “Reset” button.
- The display will show “Hold Reset = New.” Press and hold the “Reset” button until the display shows “Oil Life % 100.”
- Release the “Reset” button.
- Turn off the ignition.
2006 – 2010 Models
- Turn the ignition key to the “Off” position.
- Locate the “Setup” button near the speedometer display. Press and release this button.
- Use the “+” or “-” buttons to scroll through the options until “Oil Life” is displayed.
- Press and hold the “Reset” button located on the dashboard near the speedometer display.
- Continue to hold the “Reset” button until the “Change Oil” light on the dashboard begins to flash.
- Once the light starts flashing, release the “Reset” button.
- Press and release the “Reset” button again quickly within 5 seconds. The “Change Oil” light should go out.
- Turn the ignition key to the “Off” position.
1995 – 2005 Models
- Turn the ignition key to the “Off” position.
- Locate the “Trip/Reset” button near the odometer display. Press and hold this button.
- While holding the “Trip/Reset” button, turn the ignition key to the “On” position. Do not start the engine.
- Hold the “Trip/Reset” button until the “Change Oil” light on the dashboard flashes.
- Once the light starts flashing, release the “Trip/Reset” button.
- After releasing the “Trip/Reset” button, press and hold it again for approximately five seconds until the light goes out.
- Turn the ignition key to the “Off” position.
After a brief countdown, the Oil Life will be reset.
