Having every little thing done by a mechanic or dealership gets expensive fast. It is better to do some basic maintenance yourself and save money. Several maintenance tasks require opening the hood. So if you don’t know how, it could be a big problem! Below are directions for opening the hood of the Dodge Journey.
2015 – 2020 Models
- Pull the lever under the dash. The lever will be on the left side.
- Exit the vehicle and walk to the front.
- Slide your hand under the hood near the center.
- Push the safety catch to the left.
- Lift the hood.
- Use the hood prop rod to keep the hood open.
2009 – 2014 Models
- Pull the lever under the dash. The lever will be on the left side.
- Exit the vehicle and walk to the front.
- Slide your hand under the hood near the center.
- Push the safety catch to the right.
- Lift the hood.
- Use the hood prop rod to keep the hood open.
Closing the Hood: When closing the hood, do not slam it shut. Slamming the hood can cause damage to your car. Lower the hood down and press firmly to engage both latches.
