Chevrolet provides several ways to open the trunk (liftgate) depending on your vehicle year model: hands-free, manually, and using the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system.

2018 – 2022 Models
RKE System Method
- With your car in park, press the button with the image of a car with an open trunk symbol on your car key.
- On some models, you need to press the button twice.
- When the rear lights flash and your car chimes, the trunk is opening.
- The trunk will open automatically.
Manual Method
- Approach your vehicle’s liftgate and locate the button for opening the trunk. (Located under the Chevy logo towards the bottom of the liftgate.
- Press the liftgate button.
- When the rear lights flash and your car chimes, the trunk is opening.
- Step away from the car and wait for the trunk to open automatically.
Hands-Free Method
If your hands are full and you can’t open your trunk with your key or hands, you can open your liftgate by extending your foot (similar to a kick stance) under a designated place near the rear bumper.
- Ensure your key fob is close to the vehicle (in your handbag, pocket, or hands).
- The vehicle will sense your key and light up a logo projection under the liftgate to signal you where to kick. (This projection lights up automatically when you’re within 6 feet of the liftgate).
- Kick towards the vehicle above the projected logo and under your rear bumper. (Don’t swing your foot side to side or step on the logo because it won’t work).
- When the rear lights flash and your car chimes, the trunk is opening.
2009 – 2017 Models
The older models of Chevy Traverse do not offer hands-free trunk opening.
