When you change the oil in your Chevy Sonic (also known as Aveo), you should reset the engine oil life system so that you are properly notified when it is due for service again. Use these steps to clear the oil light.
2016-2020 Models
- Press the “Menu” button to toggle the display to show the Oil Life.
- Press “SET/CLR” while the Oil Life is displayed.
- Select “Yes“.
- Press and hold the “SET/CLR” button until you hear a chime sound.
The Oil Life should now be successfully reset to 100%.
2012 – 2016 Models
- Turn on the ignition without starting the engine.
- Use the arrow buttons on the dashboard to navigate to the “Information Menu.”
- Select “Oil Life” and then press and hold the “OK” button until the oil life percentage starts to flash.
- Press and hold the “Reset” button until the oil life percentage changes to 100%.
- Release the “Reset” button and turn off the ignition.
- The oil life has now been reset, and the next time you start the engine, the oil life percentage should read 100%.
The oil life should now be reset on your Chevy Sonic. Try the above steps again if it didn’t work.
