Chevy Impala: Reset “Change Engine Oil” Light

Reset the “Change Engine Oil” message on your Chevy Impala with these steps.

2013 – 2023 Models

1. Turn the ignition to ACC/ON.
2. Press the INFO button to the right of the steering wheel.
3. Hold the INFO button until you see OIL LIFE REMAINING.
4. Press CHECK (Check Mark) and hold until the reading returns to 100%.

2006 – 2012 Models

Method 1

1. Turn the electronics of the vehicle on. Do not start the engine.
2. Using the controls on the right side of the steering wheel, press the “Up” or “Down” navigational buttons to navigate to “Info.” Press the “√” button to select it.
3. Press the “Up” or “Down” navigational buttons to navigate to “Remaining Oil Life.”
4. Press and hold the “√” button until 100% is shown for the oil life.

Method 2

1. Start with the ignition completely off, then turn the ignition to the “ON” position. Do not start the engine.
2. Slowly press the accelerator pedal all the way down 3 times within a 5-second interval.
3. The “Change Engine Oil” message should flash 3 times and clear.

Method 3

To remove the “CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON” message and reset your oil life, look to the right of the steering wheel. Here you’ll find four buttons to interact with the display (aka the driver information center). The button images are kind of hard to describe, so I’ve given them special names (see image).

1. Keep clicking the Information button until you see OIL LIFE REMAINING preceded by a number.
2. This is how much oil life is left. When you near 0%, you should change your oil!
3. Press and hold down the Checkmark button for 5 seconds. The number should reset to 100%.
4. Click the Road button to return to normal dash display operation!

2000 – 2005 Models

1. Turn the ignition to ACC/ON.
2. Press and hold the display button until SETTINGS appear.
3. Press the SEEK up or down arrow to scroll through the menu.
4. Scroll until OIL LIFE appears on display.
5. Press PREV or NEXT to enter the submenu.
6. RESET appears.
7. Press the DISPLAY button to reset. You hear a chime; then DONE will appear.
8. Scroll until EXIT appears on display.
9. Press DISPLAY to exit. You will hear another chime.
