Chevy HHR: How To Reset The TPMS

If the Tire Pressure Management System (TPMS) in the Chevy HHR is not working properly, you may have to reset the system. Follow the steps below to re-initialize the TPMS.

First, check the recommended air levels needed:

  1. Refer to the manufacturer’s sticker inside the driver’s door for how much air must be in each tire.
  2. Make sure the spare has the correct amount of air as well.

Keep in mind that after tires are inflated, the outdoor temperature affects how fast the air in the tires will adjust to the proper temperature; this could take minutes, a day, or 3, be patient and give the tires time to adjust. In addition, if the tire pressure warning light stays illuminated for a week, you will need to have your vehicle serviced, as there could be a sensor issue or tire puncture.

NOTE: If you are unable to reset the tire pressure warning light in the Chevy HHR on the first try, repeat the steps. If you are still unsuccessful, contact the dealership for assistance or consult your vehicle user’s manual.

Options to Reset the TPMS

To reset the Tire Pressure Management System, perform one of the following options below:

Option 1: Without a TPMS Reset Tool

  1. Set your brake.
  2. Turn the key to the on position without starting the engine.
  3. Press and hold the lock/unlock buttons on the key at the same time until the horn beeps twice.
  4. Follow the same order below for filing your tire with air, or you will have to start the entire process from the very beginning.
    1. Starting with the driver’s side tire, remove air until the horn beeps. (Indicating the tire is re-learned).
    2. Do the exact same for the other three tires in this order- Front passenger, right rear, then left rear.
  5. Afterward, fill each tire to the recommended PSI/air pressure levels.
  6. Turn the key to the on position without starting the engine again to check for the warning light; it should be gone.

Option 2: Using a TPMS Reset Tool

Some models may require you to use a TPMS Reset Tool (or you could use a magnet in the same way). In that case, use these steps:

  1. Set your brake.
  2. Inflate all tires to the recommended PSI. (Usually, it is 35-40 PSI.) Including your spare.
  3. Turn the key to the on position without starting the engine.
  4. Press the MENU/DIC button located on the turn signal lever.
  5. Use the appropriate buttons on the steering wheel to find and select TIRE PRESSURE MENU within the dashboard screen.
  6. Press the SET/CLR button.
  7. You will then see REQUESTING ACCEPTANCE OF THE PROCESS. Press the SET/CLR button once more to confirm this action.

If all the steps above are done correctly, the horn will honk twice to indicate the vehicle is in the relearn mode. Immediately after, follow these steps in the ORDER listed:

  1. Place the TPMS Reset Tool on the left-front tire wall near the air stem and activate it until the horn sounds.
  2. Place the TPMS Reset Tool on the right-front tire wall near the air stem and activate it until the horn sounds.
  3. Place the TPMS Reset Tool on the right-back tire wall near the air stem and activate it until the horn sounds.
  4. Place the TPMS Reset Tool on the left-back tire wall near the air stem and activate it until the horn sounds.

That’s it. Hopefully, all worked well for you.
