2016 – 2022 Models
Supplies/Tools Needed
- 1 new CR2032 replacement battery
- 1 small flathead screwdriver
Steps to Follow
Whether you have a 4 or 5-button version key fob, replacing the battery is the same for both.
- Locate the small silver button on the side of your key fob. Press down on the button with your thumb while pulling out the internal key with your opposite thumb and index finger.
- While holding the key fob in your hand, insert the tip of the key you just removed into the key slot.
- Push up to pry the panel off with the Chevrolet logo on it.
- NOTE: Don’t insert the tip of the key too far in the slot; if you do, you won’t be able to pry the back panel off.
- Take the small flathead screwdriver with the battery exposed, insert it under the battery, and pry the battery up and out.
- Insert the new battery into its slot with the ➕ sign on the battery facing down and click the battery into place to lie flat.
- Snap the two halves of the key fob together.
- Insert your key back into the key slot, and you are finished.
2008 – 2015 Models
Supplies/Tools Needed
- 1 new CR2032 replacement battery
- 1 nickel or quarter
Steps to Follow
- It doesn’t matter how many buttons you have on your Chevrolet Cruze flipping key fob – simply flip open the key.
- With the key facing to your right and the slot where the key popped out, place your thumb over the Chevrolet logo and hold tight.
- Feel along the top of the key slot for a slight lip. Push up on the top lip of the slot with your opposite thumb. The small front panel on your key fob below the Chevrolet logo will pop up on your key fob.
- NOTE: If you can’t pry the panel up with your thumb, use a coin (a quarter or nickel) instead. Just insert the coin into the slot and twist.
- Lift this panel away with your thumb and index finger.
- Take your thumb and push down on the small tab holding the battery in place; the battery will pop out.
- Insert the new battery under the tab with the + sign facing up.
- Push down on the battery, so it sits flat in its casing.
- Position the small plastic panel over the battery and push it down to snap it back in place.
- Fold the key back into the slot, and you are good to go.
