Jeep Cherokee: Reset Tire Pressure System (TPMS)

Jeep Cherokee’s are equipped with a TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) to assist you in maintaining the correct tire pressure. The warning low-pressure indicator light which appears within your dashboard or via the EVIC, indicated by a chime, should turn off automatically after your tires receive the proper amount of air pressure/ PSI. The EVIC even indicates which tire has low pressure.

You can locate the manufacturer’s recommended tire pressure on the inside of the driver’s door.

Keep in mind, tire pressure does, in fact, change in different weather conditions, therefore, you should ask your mechanic or dealer about the levels for dissimilar temperatures. Lastly, if you constantly see this warning despite confirming proper pressure in all 4 tires plus your spare (Yes, there is a sensor there as well); Here are 2 options to follow to disable the warning light.

Contents

Option 1

  1. Inflate your tires to the proper pressure (Warning will not disappear if pressure is lower than the recommendation).
  2. Drive above 15mph/24km for 20 minutes within the city to reset your system.

Option 2

  1. Switch the ignition to the ON position without starting the vehicle.
  2. Press gas all the way to the floor 3x’s within 10 secs.
  3. Switch OFF ignition. After 10 secs start the engine.

Older Grand Cherokees

  1. Switch the ignition to the ON position without starting the vehicle.
  2. Press and hold the RESET button for 10 seconds.

You have successfully reset the TPMS on the Jeep Cherokee.

**NOTE: Should the low-Pressure warning remain after your first try, repeat the steps. If you are still unsuccessful, contact the dealership for assistance or consult your vehicle user’s manual.

  1. I had two tire sensors replaced in my 2017 jeep grand Cherokee, but the shop did not have a way to program them. what are the steps to enter the program mode for this vehicle. I purchased the TPMS Relearning Tool for jeep but, I need to know the steps to get the onboard computer into the programing mode for programing the tire pressure sensors.

    • The best I can figure is get jscan and an ODB module get the ID from the sensor and manually type it in one of (Left/Right Front/Rear Tire Sensor ID), or get the windows ODB thing and use it.

I can’t find a method other than replace one sensor drive for 20 minutes and I guess if your doing 2 do then starting with whichever is first (left front) lf, rf, rr, lr
