Jeep Cherokee: How to Reset Oil Life

When it is time to reset the oil light on the Jeep Cherokee, an “Oil Change Required” notification will appear within the instrument cluster/dashboard each time you start your vehicle. Follow one of the following sets of instructions to reset the oil life.

Option 1

  1. Shift the gear to the “Park/P” position.
  2. Press the Start/Stop button to ON/RUN (Do not start the engine)
  3. Slowly press the accelerator in 3 times within 10 seconds
  4. Press the Start/Stop button to turn the electronics off.

Option 2

  1. Shift the gear to the “Park/P” position.
  2. Without holding the brake pedal, press the Start/Stop button to turn on the electronics. Do not start the engine.
  3. On the steering wheel, navigate to the “Oil Life” selection under “Vehicle Info“.
  4. Push and hold the OK button until the oil light percentage changes to 100%.
  5. Press the Start/Stop button to turn the electronics off.

After these steps have been performed, you have successfully reset the oil life on the Jeep Cherokee If you are unable to reset the “Oil Change Required” light utilizing one of these methods, repeat the steps. If you are still unsuccessful, contact the dealership for assistance or consult your vehicle user’s manual.
