How to Reset Oil Change Light on the Nissan Maxima

Be sure to reset the oil change indicator every time your Nissan Maxima has the oil changed. Use these steps to perform an oil reset on the system.

2016-2023 Models

  1. Turn the ignition on, but do not start the engine.
  2. Use the “Up” and “Down” arrow buttons on the steering wheel to toggle the selection to “Maintenance.”
  3. Press the “OK” button on the steering wheel to go into the “Maintenance” menu.
  4. Use the “Up” and “Down” arrows to toggle the selection to “Oil and Filter.”
  5. Press the “OK” button on the steering wheel to go into the “Oil and Filter” menu.
  6. Use the “Up” and “Down” arrows to toggle the selection to “Reset.”
  7. Press the “OK” button to choose “Reset.”
  8. Use the “Down” arrow to highlight “Yes.”
  9. Press the “OK” button, and the “Oil and Filter” light will be reset.

2000-2015 Models

Models With Info Center Display

  1. Turn the ignition to the ON position, but do not start the engine.
  2. Press the “TRIP/RESET” button on the instrument panel until “Trip A” is displayed on the odometer screen.
  3. Turn the ignition to the OFF position.
  4. Press and hold the “TRIP/RESET” button.
  5. While holding the “TRIP/RESET” button, turn the ignition back to the ON position.
  6. Continue holding the “TRIP/RESET” button for about 10 seconds until the odometer display changes to “000000.”
  7. Release the “TRIP/RESET” button.
  8. Turn the ignition back to the OFF position.
  9. Turn the ignition back to the ON position to confirm that the oil change light has been reset.

Models Without Info Center Display

  1. Turn the ignition on, but do not start the engine.
  2. Repeatedly press the Nissan Page Button button to toggle to the “Setting” screen.
  3. Use the Nissan Circle Button button to toggle the selection to “Maintenance“, then press the Nissan Page Button button to enter that screen.
  4. From the “Maintenance” screen, use the Nissan Circle Button to toggle the selection to “Engine Oil“, then press the Nissan Page Button button to enter that screen.
  5. From the “Engine Oil” screen, use the Nissan Circle Button to toggle the selection to “Reset“, then press the Nissan Page Button button to enter that screen.
  6. Press Nissan Circle Button to reset the engine oil light.

1994 – 1999 Models

  1. Turn the ignition key to the ON position, but do not start the engine.
  2. Locate the small button near the odometer display and press it repeatedly until the “ODO” display is replaced with the trip meter display “TRIP A.”
  3. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
  4. Press and hold the button down, then turn the ignition key back to the ON position. Continue holding the button down for 5 seconds until the display resets to “000000”.
  5. Release the button.
  6. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position, then start the engine to confirm that the oil change light has been reset.
