2011 – 2023 Models
- Begin with the engine turned off.
- Purchase or borrow an OBD-II scanner.
- Locate the OBD-II port under the dashboard, near the steering column.
- Plug in an OBD-II scanner and turn on your car’s ignition (don’t start the engine).
- Follow the scanner’s instructions to scan for error codes.
- Clear error codes related to the VSC system.
- Turn off the ignition and unplug the scanner.
- Restart your BMW to check if the VSC light is off.
1990 – 1996 & 2004 – 2010 Models
- Park your BMW and turn off the engine.
- Open the hood and disconnect the negative (-) terminal of the car battery.
- Wait for about 15 minutes.
- Reconnect the negative terminal and start your BMW.
- Drive the car and confirm the VSC light has turned off.
1997 – 2003 Models
- Park your BMW and switch off the engine.
- Locate the fuse box, usually in the engine compartment.
- Remove the cover and find the fuse labeled “VSC” or “ESP.”
- Use the fuse puller (often located inside the fuse box cover) to remove the fuse.
- Wait for a minute, then reinsert the fuse.
- Start your BMW and observe if the VSC light is no longer illuminated.
