How to Replace Key Fob Battery in a Toyota Camry

If you’ve noticed that your key fob is no longer responding as it should, a simple battery replacement might be all you need to restore full functionality. We’ll walk you through the step-by-step process of replacing the key fob battery in your Toyota Camry, so you can continue to enjoy the convenience and security that comes with this accessory.

2018 – 2023 Models

  1. Locate the small indentation on the back of the key fob.
  2. Use a larger screwdriver to prop open the indentation and reveal the battery compartment.
  3. Remove any cover or casing that may be protecting the battery.
  4. If you have a smaller screwdriver, use it to gently lift the old battery out of the compartment.
  5. Take the new CR2032 battery with the plus (+) side facing upward.
  6. Place the new battery into the battery compartment, aligning it in the same direction as the old battery.
  7. If you removed any covers or casings, put them back in place to secure the new battery.
  8. Close the battery compartment by aligning the parts and gently squeezing the fob together.
  9. Close the key fob with the new battery in the correct position.
  10. Test the key fob to make sure it’s working correctly with the new battery.

2012 – 2017 Models

  1. Purchase a new CR2016 battery.
  2. Use a screwdriver or pry bar tool to carefully open the key fob. Look for a slot or button that allows you to separate the key fob’s halves.
  3. Once the key fob is open, locate the battery. Carefully remove the old battery from its compartment.
  4. Take the new battery and place it into the battery compartment with the correct orientation. The positive (+) and negative (-) sides of the battery should align with the markings inside the key fob.
  5. Align the two halves of the key fob and press them together until they snap into place.
  6. Check if the key fob works properly by pressing the buttons and verifying that the car responds.

1997 – 2011 Models

  1. Gather a dime or a flat-head screwdriver and a replacement battery.
  2. Look for a small groove or slot on one corner of the remote.
  3. Insert a dime or flat-head screwdriver into the groove and gently turn it to open the casing of the remote.
  4. Once the casing is open, keep the remote facing down to prevent the buttons from popping out.
  5. Look for the battery inside the remote. In one corner, you should see a label that indicates using a coin to open the battery compartment.
  6. Use the dime (or flat-head screwdriver) again to gently open the battery compartment.
  7. Remove the old battery from the compartment. Make sure to note its orientation to correctly install the new battery.
  8. Take the new replacement battery and insert it into the compartment, ensuring its proper orientation.
  9. Close the battery compartment by pressing it back into place, making sure it is securely closed.
  10. Place the remote back together, ensuring that all parts are aligned properly.
  11. Test the remote to make sure it’s working correctly from a distance of approximately 50 feet or more.
