Mitsubishi Outlander: How to Open Trunk

Do you want to access the cargo space of the Mitsubishi Outlander? There are four ways to open the trunk of most Mitsubishi Outlander models. Let’s discuss each method below.

2022-2023 Models

Hands-Free Power Liftgate Method

1. Approach the trunk with your keyfob in your hand, pocket, or bag.
2. Make a kicking motion below the bumper.
3. The vehicle chimes to indicate the trunk is opening.
4. Step back to avoid being injured by the opening trunk.

Keyfob Method

1. Make sure the power tailgate function is enabled. You can find the power tailgate function button on the control panel near the cupholder.
2. Approach the trunk with the keyfob in hand.
3. Press the tailgate button on the keyfob to open the trunk.

Dashboard Button Method

1. Turn off your engine and unlock your vehicle.
2. Press the “trunk opening” button on the dashboard. The button has a car with an open tailgate symbol.
3. The trunk springs open.

Trunk Door Button Method

1. Turn off the engine and unlock your vehicle.
2. Approach the trunk.
3. Push the trunk opening button beneath the trunk door handle.
4. Step back to allow the trunk to open without injuring you.

2016-2020 Models

There are three ways to open the trunk of these models, including pressing a switch on the dashboard, using a keyfob, and pushing a button beneath the trunk handle.

Dashboard Switch Method

1. Turn off the engine but keep the ignition turned on.
2. Place the vehicle in the Park position.
3. Press the switch with an open trunk symbol underneath the steering wheel.
4. The trunk pops open.

Keyfob Method

1. Turn off the engine, but keep the ignition in the ON position.
2. Place the vehicle in the Park position.
3. Approach the trunk.
4. Press the unlock key on your keyfob to open all doors.
5. Hold the trunk handle and lift the trunk door.

Trunk Door Button Method

1. Turn off the engine but keep the ignition turned on.
2. Place the vehicle in the Park position.
3. Press the unlock key on the keyfob to unlock the car.
4. Approach the trunk.
5. Push the button beneath the trunk handle to open the trunk.

2010-2015 Models

1. Turn off the engine but keep the ignition turned on.
2. Place the vehicle in the Park position.
3. Approach the trunk.
4. Press the unlock door key on the keyfob.
5. Lift the trunk door to open the trunk.
