Volvo XC90: How to Open the Hood

Do you need to access your engine compartment on the Volvo XC90 and don’t know how to open the hood? Follow the below steps to open your vehicle’s hood, depending on the model year.

2015 – 2023 Models

1. Locate and pull the hood release lever on the left of the brake pedal below the dashboard.
2. Approach the hood.
3. Lift the hood slightly and use your hand to locate the secondary hood release lever.
4. Turn the lever in the counterclockwise direction to release the hood.
5. Release the latch and lift the hood.
6. The hood will stay up, supported by the hood support struts.

2002 – 2014 Models

1. Locate and pull the hood release lever on the left of the brake pedal below the dashboard.
2. Approach the hood.
3. Lift the hood slightly and use your hand to locate the secondary hood release lever.
4. Push the secondary latch to release the hood.
5. Release the latch and lift the hood.
6. The hood will stay up, supported by the hood support struts.
